How much is a transfer from Sofia to Stara Zagora?

150 € for a sedan, and that is the price for the car, not for each passenger. On this route our price lists give the same amount in both directions: the Sofia and Sofia Airport lists for the trip to Stara Zagora, and the Stara Zagora list for the trip back. The figure you are quoted when you book is the figure you pay, also at night or on a public holiday.

Vehicle Passengers Sofia or Sofia Airport → Stara Zagora Stara Zagora → Sofia
Sedan up to 4 150 € 150 €
Minivan up to 6 180 € 180 €
Minibus up to 8 220 € 220 €

Which car? Three business travellers with cabin bags fit well in a sedan. A family of four with two big suitcases, a pushchair and a cool box will be more comfortable in the minivan, and a sedan does not always take four adults plus four large cases. For a group of five to eight people, one minibus usually costs less than two sedans. Mercedes E-Class or S-Class cars and coaches for more than 8 people are on request.

Many people who ride with us to Stara Zagora go a little further. These rows come from the same price lists:

Trip Distance Sedan Minivan Minibus
Stara Zagora → Kazanlak 35 km, 35 min 35 € 50 € 60 €
Stara Zagora → Plovdiv 105 km, 1:15 h 90 € 110 € 130 €
Stara Zagora → Burgas 175 km, 1:45 h 130 € 180 € 210 €
Sofia Airport → Kazanlak 235 km, 3:15 h 160 € 200 € 250 €

How long does the drive take?

Plan on about 2 hours 45 minutes from Sofia or the airport, and about 2 hours 30 minutes for the 230 km back from Stara Zagora to Sofia. The road is the Trakia motorway (A1) for almost the whole way: east out of Sofia, past Ihtiman and Pazardzhik, around Plovdiv and on through the Thracian plain. Near Stara Zagora the driver leaves the motorway and covers the last few kilometres into the city. There is no border, no ferry and no toll you need to pay yourself.

The slow parts are easy to predict. Leaving Sofia on a Friday afternoon takes longer, and so does the way back into the capital on a Sunday evening after a long weekend. Road works on the motorway can add some minutes for a few weeks at a time. Tell us the time you must be in Stara Zagora, for a meeting or an exam, and we suggest a pick-up time with a margin. A short stop for coffee or a pharmacy on the way is no problem.

Where does the driver meet me at Sofia Airport?

In the arrivals hall of your terminal, after you collect your luggage. Before the day of travel you receive the driver’s name and mobile number, so you can message him as soon as the plane lands. We follow the flight. If it is late, he waits for you at no charge and with no time limit; if it lands early, he is already there. Our Sofia Airport arrivals guide shows Terminals 1 and 2 and what happens between the plane and the car.

For a pick-up at a home, a hotel or an office in Sofia or Stara Zagora, the driver comes at the agreed time and waits up to 15 minutes at the address. If you are running late, write in the chat and we adjust.

Who travels between Sofia and Stara Zagora

This is not a tourist route in the usual sense, and that is why a fixed-price car makes sense on it. We drive engineers and managers to the industrial zones and to the energy plants of the Maritsa East complex south-east of the city, students and lecturers to Trakia University and its medical and veterinary faculties, and families who come home from abroad and want to be at the door of their parents’ flat, not at a bus station. A direct car also saves the change of transport in Plovdiv or Sofia that many travellers would otherwise need.

Stara Zagora itself rewards a stop. The Roman forum of Augusta Trajana lies in the middle of the city, the Neolithic Dwellings Museum keeps houses that are around 8,000 years old, and the mineral springs of Starozagorski Bani are a short drive away. Kazanlak, 35 km to the north, has the Thracian tomb listed by UNESCO and, in early June, the Rose Festival. If you want to see one of these places on the way, tell us when you book and we agree the stop and the price in advance.

Can I bring a lot of luggage or a pet?

Yes, as long as we know about it. Write how many suitcases you have and whether there is anything bulky, such as a bike, a box of samples for a trade visit or a musical instrument, and we send a car where it fits. The driver helps with loading. For a dog or a cat, our partner service YesTrans drives pets together with their owners and can arrange the same route.

  • Children: an infant carrier, a child seat and a booster are free of charge. Just tell us how many children travel and we fit the seats before pick-up.
  • Several stops: collecting a colleague in Plovdiv or dropping someone in Kazanlak is possible; we confirm the price for the whole trip before you travel.

How do I pay?

To the driver, when you arrive. We take no prepayment and no deposit, so nothing is charged when you book. Companies that need an invoice for the trip should mention it when booking and send the company details; the invoice is issued for the fixed price you were quoted.

Two drivers in 2015, five languages today

True Drivers was started in 2015 by Pavel and David, who at the time did the driving themselves. The company grew from those first transfers into a network of around 200 sedans, 50 minivans, 100 buses and 20 Mercedes S-Class and E-Class cars, but the way of working stayed the same: a fixed price, a named driver and a reply in the chat when you need it. This site is in five languages, English, Bulgarian, German, Italian and Hebrew, so the person who books and the person who travels can both read the same details.

The route passes Plovdiv, so if part of your group is going there instead, see Sofia Airport to Plovdiv transfer. If you continue from Stara Zagora to the coast, read Burgas Airport to Sunny Beach and Nessebar. All destinations from the city are in our Stara Zagora price list.

Book in three steps
