Razlog in winter: why travellers stay here

Razlog is a small town in the valley between the Pirin, Rila and Rhodope mountains, about 6 km before Bansko on the same road. Many foreign skiers choose Razlog as their base: apartments are often bigger and quieter than in the centre of Bansko, and the gondola is a short ride away. Remote workers like the valley for the same reasons and often stay for weeks or the whole season.

The only part that needs planning is getting there. Buses to Razlog leave from the city, not from the airport terminal, and with skis, a laptop bag and luggage for a month, changing buses in the city centre after a flight is not much fun. A private transfer takes you straight from arrivals to your door.

All prices are per vehicle, not per person, and include the driver, fuel, insurance and road tolls. VIP class (Mercedes E-Class or S-Class) and larger buses are on request. The return trip to the airport is also priced on request; we confirm it in advance, so both ways are fixed before you fly. Sofia Airport or Plovdiv Airport

Sofia Airport has the most flights all year, from most European capitals, and the road to Razlog is mostly motorway: south on the Struma motorway, then east at Simitli over the Predela pass, and Razlog is the first town you reach on the other side. Plovdiv Airport is small, with a quick exit from the terminal; it has fewer flights, so check whether your airline flies there. From Plovdiv the road goes west through the mountains and comes down into the Razlog valley, again reaching Razlog before Bansko. Choose the airport by your flight times; the transfer works the same way from both.

For skiers: Razlog as your base for Bansko

• Skis and boards: tell us how many ski or snowboard bags you have when you book, so we send a vehicle with enough space. The price does not change because of luggage.
• Car (up to 4): Skoda Octavia or similar, 2 large suitcases. Two people with skis travel comfortably; a family of four with skis is better off in a minivan.
• Minivan (up to 6): VW Caddy Maxi or similar, up to 4 large suitcases.
• Minibus (up to 8): VW Transporter or similar, 8 suitcases plus ski bags.
• Razlog ↔ Bansko: if you need a ride between Razlog and Bansko, for example when you move from an apartment in Razlog to a hotel in Bansko, ask us when you book the airport transfer. The price is on request.

For remote workers and long stays

If you are coming for a month or for the whole winter, you probably travel with more than a ski bag: a monitor, a second suitcase, sometimes a bike. The ski season usually runs from mid-December to the end of March. The Christmas and New Year week, the February school holidays and the Saturday changeover days are the busiest, and many guests land on the same flights.
