Varna Airport to Golden Sands and Albena: Transfer, Prices, Times

Landing at Varna Airport (VAR) and heading for the beach? Golden Sands is about 20 km and 35 minutes away, Albena about 35 km and 40 minutes. This guide puts the two resorts side by side: our fixed prices, the road, where your driver waits, what changes in high season, and how to plan for children and luggage.

The quick answer

For two or more people with suitcases, a private transfer is the easiest way from Varna Airport to Golden Sands or Albena. The driver meets you in the arrivals hall, loads the luggage and drives you to the door of your hotel. The price is fixed for the whole car, not per person: 40 € to Golden Sands and 50 € to Albena by car for up to 4 passengers. Four friends going to Golden Sands pay 10 € each.

Prices, distance and driving time

The prices come from our Varna Airport price list. They include the driver, fuel, insurance and road tolls, and they do not change at night, at weekends or with the amount of luggage.

Golden Sands or Albena: how they differ

Golden Sands (Zlatni Pyasatsi)

Golden Sands is the bigger and livelier of the two, just north of Varna. It has a long beach, a large choice of hotels, and plenty of restaurants and bars that stay open late in summer. The green hills of the nature park rise right behind the hotels. It suits couples, groups of friends and anyone who wants Varna close by for a day trip or a night out.

Albena

Albena lies further up the coast, about 15 km beyond Golden Sands. It is quieter and greener, with a wide beach and a gently sloping sea floor, and many visitors come with children. If you want calm evenings and short walks between hotel, pool and beach, Albena is a good fit. Balchik and its botanical garden are a short drive further north.

Between the two lies the village of Kranevo, and to the south of Golden Sands are Sveti Konstantin and Elena and the Riviera area. We drive to all of them; the prices are in the same airport price list.

The road from the airport

Varna Airport is on the western edge of Varna. From there the driver crosses the north of the city and joins the coastal road heading north. Sveti Konstantin and Elena come first, then the entrance to Golden Sands. For Albena the car continues past Kranevo for about another 15 km. There are no motorway sections and no border; the drive is short and mostly along the green coastal hills.

In July and August expect more traffic in Varna and at the resort entrances, especially at weekends, when many holidaymakers arrive and leave. The driver takes the fastest way for the traffic at that moment. Need a quick stop at a supermarket or an ATM? Ask the driver.

Where the driver waits

• At the airport: the driver waits in the arrivals hall after baggage claim, with a sign with your name. You get his name and phone number in advance.
• We track your flight. If it lands early or late, the driver adjusts.
• Delayed flight? Waiting at the airport is free and has no time limit. You do not pay extra because the airline is late.
• At an address, for example your hotel on the way back, the driver arrives about 10 minutes early and waits up to 15 minutes.

Please send us the exact name of your hotel. Both resorts have many hotels, some with similar names, and the right name gets you to the right entrance.

Season and timing

Most holidaymakers arrive at Varna between May and October, with the peak in July and August. In those weeks it is worth booking the transfer together with the flight and hotel, so the right size of car is ready when you land. Outside summer many hotels in both resorts close; check that yours is open before you travel. We work 24/7, all year, so a night landing is no problem.

For the flight home, tell us your departure time and we will agree a pick-up time with you. The drive back takes about 35 to 40 minutes, plus a buffer for summer traffic and check-in.

Families, children and luggage

• Child seats are free: infant carrier, child seat and booster. Just tell us what you need when you book.
• Car (up to 4): Skoda Octavia or similar, room for 2 large suitcases. Good for a couple or a small family.
• Minivan (up to 6): up to 4 large suitcases. The usual choice for a family of four with big luggage and a pushchair.
• Minibus (up to 8): room for 8 suitcases. Two families together often pay less per person than in two cars.
